How to sign up for a free developer edition?

In this article, we will discuss how to sign up for the Salesforce free developer edition and the difference between Salesforce Classic and Salesforce Lightning.

Steps to sign up for Salesforce free developer edition

Step-1: To sign up for free developer org, visit developer.salesforce.org

Step-2: Click on the signup button.

Step-3: Fill in the detail

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Role- You can choose any role. As a beginner, choose administrator as the role.
  • Company name
  • Country 
  • Postal code and

Username– Your username needs to be unique. You can use your email as a username, or you can choose something else. Example- practice@rajeshchatterjee.com

Step-4: Verify your email

It may take 2-3 minutes. If you do not get an email in your inbox, check the promotions and spam folder. Then click on the verify account button.

Step-5: Change your password and fill the security question.

You have successfully signed up for the Salesforce free developer edition

After signing up, you will land on the Salesforce developer dashboard.

You will be able to see all the features of the paid version. But, the free version allows you to use only limited functions. You will not be able to use the free developer org for business purposes as it has a lot of limitations.

Salesforce user interface.

Salesforce has two user interfaces- Classic and Lightning 

Lightning Interface

Classic Interface

Salesforce Classic is the old user interface, while Salesforce Lightning is the new user interface.

You can shift from classic to lightning by clicking on Switch to Salesforce Classic in the drop-down menu by clicking your account face on the top right end of the dashboard.

Difference between Salesforce Lightning and Salesforce Classic 

The majority of functionality in Classic and Lightning remain the same only the user interface is a bit different.

The difference is seen when you do the development. The framework that we maintain for developing on Classic user interface is different from that of the Lightning user interface. We have Visual force for Classic while Lightning web component or aura component for Lightning.

Whatever configurations or automation you do will be available for both Classic and Lightning user interfaces by default.

However, Lightning is the future. It is advanced and has better functionality compared to Classic.
